Jeff Pannell called the meeting to order at 7:01pm.  The pledge and invocation were said.  Minutes from last month’s meeting were approved as posted.

Adult Leadership – Jeff Pannell

Steve Passariello will take over as Camping Awards Coordinator beginning in Sept.  Jeff discussed the Boy Scout Guide to Safe Scouting Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Use.  Alcohol is prohibited at all Boy Scout events.  Tobacco use should only be in designated areas away from the boys.

Succession Plan:  Two positions will be turning soon.  A new Troop Committee Chairman will be designated in May as per the schedule in the Troop Policy Handbook.  The Scoutmaster position will also be changing.  This will be off-schedule from what is shown in the handbook (turning in 2009 instead of 2010).  Opinions from Scoutmaster and asst. scoutmasters are being gathered and a nomination will be put forth in May.  This way all will be in place and ready to begin the new scout year in August.

Treasurer’s Report – Tom Jensen

Cash flow hasn’t significantly changed from last month, which is approx. $1700 (not including the $3,000 church seed money) remaining for troop operations.  Name badges will be ordered for those that are Rocking Chair trained.

Scoutmaster Report – Frank Wagnon

4/11 – Kimball Clean-Up at 8:00am.  Scouts will do additional work on the church grounds, in addition to Kimball St., so it looks nice for Easter.  Any new adults that want info on camping should come and get educated/ask questions while the boys are working.

4/17-19 – Camporee.  This “Seals the Deal” for new scouts just starting out.  There will be a $20 charge for scouts and scouters to cover food and camporee fees.

4/26 – PLC, Troop Meeting and Boards of Review

5/2 – Order of the Arrow Ordeal for those tapped out or Sealing their Brotherhood

5/3 – Troop Meeting

5/10 – No meeting due to Mother’s Day

5/11 – Troop Committee Meeting

5/16-17 – Team Extreme Campout in Bridgeport

6/7 – Court of Honor

We need to set a date for Swim Tests prior to summer camp.  Also need to arrange for service project. Karie to check into Shivers Cemetery.

Scout Parent Coordinator Report – Jay Emery

We currently are holding at 11 new scouts, although Grant Marshall may drop out.  One of the 11 is an older scout.  Two of the 11 have not turned in their paperwork yet.  Fireman Chit and Tote and Chip will be done at the May campout.

Adult Leadership Training – Mike Mrasek

There are lots of training opportunities on the Longhorn Council website.  Wilderness First Aid Basics class is 5/1-3.  Boys over 16 are eligible to take this too.  Two new classes being taught are Trek Safely and Weather Hazards.  The first part of Rocking Chair Training used to be called New Leader Essentials.  It is now called This is Scouting and is available on-line.  Certificates for Safety Afloat, Youth Protection, Safe Swim, NRA, and Climbing need to be put in the Black Transportation book.

Venture Crew – Craig Neill

This is for older scouts and we would need 5-6 to form a crew.  We could potentially set up requirements such as being SPL, attending Twin Arrows, being in OA, etc.  Usually there are 4 high adventure outings a year and they are not bound by the same Boy Scout rules that a troop is.  For instance they are allowed to hunt.  We would need a current Venture Crew scout to champion the idea to our older boys.  Craig raised the point that our older boys are essentially acting as a Venture Crew with the Glacier National Park trip.  Wayne Crandall suggested we look at Sea Scouts as an option too.

Website – Black Chaffe

Black is looking for help setting up the Troop Trading Post for clothing exchanges.  He also wants to form a committee to get help and ideas from.  Karie to look in past minutes to see who volunteered previously.

Woodbadge Tickets – Steve White

Steve is working on the following tickets for this Woodbadge training:

  1. Advanced archery for our troop – potentially starting a JOAD club (Jr. Olympic Archery Development).
  2. Increase attendance at Twin Arrows – already accomplished through Wayne Crandall’s efforts.
  3. Work on avenue for Merit Badge Requirements to be tracked better on campouts.
  4. Scoutmaster meetings – have Scoutmaster and ASM’s meet informally with scouts to review their advancement
  5. Visit the National Scout Museum.

Closing – Jeff Pannell

We need a Fundraising Chairman quickly as this needs to kick off soon.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Karie Edson
